Corrigendum: Popovici G, Popa OP, Iorgu EI (2026) Integrative taxonomy uncovers hidden diversity in Romanian Geophilus Leach, 1814 (Geophilomorpha, Geophilidae). Zoosystematics and Evolution 102(2): 533–555. https://doi.org/10.3897/zse.102.177928

Authors: George Popovici, Oana Paula Popa, Elena Iulia Iorgu

Abstract: This corrigendum addresses two errors in Popovici et al. (2026), wherein two new species of Geophilus, Geophilus captiosus and Geophilus tenuis, are described from Romania and their relationships to other congeners are investigated. In the original publication, a row of headings in Table 1, representing species names, was accidentally removed during typesetting. The correct, complete version of Table 1 is provided herein. Additionally, within Figure 12, the legend incorrectly labels records of G. tenuis as G. debilis. The corrected version of Figure 12, with an updated legend is provided herein. The authors sincerely apologize for these oversights.

Integrative taxonomy uncovers hidden diversity in Romanian Geophilus Leach, 1814 (Geophilomorpha, Geophilidae)

Zoosystematics and Evolution 102(2): 533-555

Authors: George Popovici, Oana Paula Popa, Elena Iulia Iorgu

Abstract: Two new species of Geophilus Leach, 1814, are identified and described from Romania. The examined material is compared with morphologically similar congeners, suggesting the presence of a complex of closely related species within the highly diverse genus Geophilus, characterized by a unique combination of diagnostic morphological and molecular characters. Two nuclear (18S, 28S) and one mitochondrial (COI) markers are sequenced for Geophilus tenuis sp. nov., and COI sequence data are provided for Geophilus captiosus sp. nov. Morphological data, phylogenetic reconstruction, and three molecular species delimitation tools (ASAP, bPTP, and GMYC) confirm their validity, with diagnostic nucleotide combinations, based on the COI barcode, additionally provided for them. Their placement in Geophilus is assessed through the most complete phylogeny of the genus hitherto constructed, using sequence data of 18S, 28S, and COI markers from all species present in public repositories. The extent of potential undescribed species diversity in Geophilus is discussed, highlighting the need for comprehensive sampling of small endogeic members of this genus.

Taxonomy of the Strigamia centipedes from the East Asian mainland (Geophilomorpha, Geophilidae)

Zoosystematics and Evolution 101(4): 2065-2101

DOI: 10.3897/zse.101.160146

Authors: Yifei Yu, Chunxue You, Chao Jiang

Abstract: In this study, 15 centipede species of the genus Strigamia Gray, 1843 were recorded from the East Asian mainland, including 7 newly discovered species: S. asiatica Jiang & Yu, sp. nov., S. dianguiensis Jiang & Yu, sp. nov., S. laterisetosa Jiang & Yu, sp. nov., S. longiglanda Jiang & Yu, sp. nov., S. obliquidentata Jiang & Yu, sp. nov., S. xizangensis Jiang & Yu, sp. nov. and S. ziyunensis Jiang & Yu, sp. nov. Strigamia monoporus (Takakuwa, 1938) was proposed as a nomen dubium because it was likely derived from immature specimens and lacked sufficient diagnostic information. A key to Strigamia species from the East Asian mainland is provided.

Abstract: Two centipede genera, Alluropus Silvestri, 1912, and Rhysida Wood, 1862, were examined within the context of Vietnam’s fauna. According to literature and 316 recently collected specimens, four species have been documented, including a new species, Rhysida vietnga sp. nov. Their distribution is updated, and an identification key to the Vietnamese species is also provided.

Taxonomic re-appraisal of Scolopocryptops quadristriatus (Verhoeff, 1934) and a description of a new species from Japan and Taiwan (Chilopoda, Scolopendromorpha, Scolopocryptopidae)

Zoosystematics and Evolution 100(2): 405-423

DOI: 10.3897/zse.100.119297

Authors: Taro Jonishi, Takafumi Nakano

Abstract: Centipedes of the genus Scolopocryptops Newport, 1844 are blind species mostly described from the New World and East Asia. In this study, a Japanese species, S. quadristriatus (Verhoeff, 1934), which is characterised by four longitudinal keels on the tergites, is re-described, based on the likely holotype preserved in the Zoologische Staatssammlung München and specimens newly collected from near the type locality. In addition, S. longisetosus sp. nov., a new species that bears tergal keels like S. quadristriatus, is described from the Ryukyu Islands in Japan and Taiwan. Although the presence of four keels on tergites is unique to these two species, phylogenetic analyses using nuclear and mitochondrial markers showed that S. longisetosus sp. nov. is not sister to S. quadristriatus. The obtained phylogeny indicates that the tergal longitudinal keels evolved in parallel within Scolopocryptops or that the presence of keels represents a plesiomorphic character of the clade containing these species.
